Commentary: Issued by the UN Secretary-General on 17 July 2000, the
Guidelines extracted below (footnotes omitted) provide guidance for private sector
relations with the UN. Annex 1 contains the Global Compact. Annex 2 contains an
explanatory background note on the use of the UN name and emblem (under Section
V) and illustrates the various modalities listed under Section VI. See further, UN
