This book is part of a broader project concerning governance and regulation
of European private law. Jointly with `Making European Private Law
Governance Design', it signals the necessity to look more deeply at the insti-
tutional framework in which Europeanization is occurring. The project has
been carried out within NewGov. The two books could not have been
published without the help and professional assistance of Federica Casarosa
and Sophie Stalla-Bourdillon, two young researchers committed to innovative
scholarship. We would also like to thankfully acknowledge the support and
encouragement of Edward Elgar, the publisher, and Nep Elverd for her essen-
tial editorial assistance.
