We are immensely grateful to those who have contributed in various
ways to the publication of this book. The development of the book
has been a long process, involving many strategic discussions
with Geneva-based and Brussels-based developing country delegates
dealing with IP enforcement negotiations; intensive interactions
with capital-based policy-makers; high-level meetings with board
members of the South Centre; series of dialogues with the officials
and professionals of several international organizations, such as the
WTO, UNCTAD, WIPO, WHO, WCO, UPU, ACWL; and in-depth
interactions with colleagues from non-governmental organizations,
including TWN, CIEL, ICTSD, and so on.
We would like to acknowledge the valuable contributions from
the participants who attended the first and the second South Centre
International Symposiums on `Examining IP Enforcement from a
Development Perspective', held in Geneva on 9 October 2007 and 16
September 2008, respectively. In particular, we would like to express
our sincere appreciation to H.E. Mr Zhenyu Sun, Ambassador of
the People's Republic of China to the WTO, and H.E. Dr Makarim
Wibisono, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the UN,
for their substantive support and strategic vision. We would like to
acknowledge the valuable views and steadfast support from many
developing countries' delegates, particularly Guilherme de Aguiar
Patriota, Sunjay Sudhir, Boumediene Mahi, Johan van Wyk, Ali
Asad, Luis Vayas Valdivieso, Mohamed Omar Gad, Maximiliano
Santa Cruz, Ines Fastame, Deny Kurnia, Maigari Buba, Cristiano
Berbert, Mohamed A. Bdioui, Zhihua Dong, Yan Huo, Xiangchen
Zhang, ...
