Barry E. Adler is the Bernard Petrie Professor of Law and Business and Associate Dean
for Information Systems and Technology at the New York University School of Law,
where he teaches in the areas of bankruptcy, contracts, corporate finance, and corpora-
tions. His numerous publications in these areas include Foundations of Bankruptcy Law
(Foundation Press, 2005) and Bankruptcy: Cases, Problems, and Materials (co-authored
with Douglas Baird and Thomas Jackson, 4th edn, Foundation Press, 2007).

Lee J. Alston is Professor of Economics and Director of the Environment and Society
Program in the Institute of Behavioral Science at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Alston is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He
has published numerous articles on historical and contemporary institutions with a
focus on the United States and Brazil, as well as Southern Paternalism and the American
Welfare State: Economics, Politics, and Institutions in the South, 1865­1965 (co-authored
with Joseph P. Ferrie, Cambridge University Press, 1999), Titles, Conflict, and Land Use:
The Development of Property Rights and Land Reform on the Brazilian Amazon Frontier
(co-authored with Gary D. Libecap and Bernardo Mueller, University of Michigan
Press, 1999), and Empirical Studies in Institutional Change (co-edited with Thráinn
Eggertsson and Douglass North, Cambridge University Press, 1996).

Benito Arruñada is Professor of Business Organization at Pompeu Fabra University and
Barcelona GSE, where he teaches in the areas of organizations and markets, business
