ownership of intellectual property

1. INTRODUCTION

The TRIPS Agreement covers no fewer than seven categories of intel-
lectual property (IP) rights.1 National IP law may comprise even more
types of IP rights. In German law, for example, plant varieties and utility
models are also governed by specific acts.2 In addition, there are IP-related
statutes on employee inventions, copyright collecting societies, etc.3 All
these issues are regulated on a national, regional4 and international level.
