Acknowledgements
As editors, on behalf of the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law, we take
this opportunity to record our thanks and appreciation to our Brazilian hosts,
the Brazilian School of Environmental Law and Policy and the Law for a
Green Planet Institute, for their excellent support in the Academy's 2007
colloquium locations of Rio de Janeiro and Parati. Particular thanks are due
to Kelen Meregali and her team for their diligent attention to the
administrative arrangements that underpin any successful international
gathering.
Thanks are also due to the United Nations Environment Programme for
the contributions it has made on a continuing basis to facilitate the
participation of scholars from developing nations at the Academy's
colloquia.
The editors are also grateful to the University of Ottawa for its continuing
support of the Academy's endeavours. In addition, Ben Boer acknowledges
the infrastructure support of the Sydney Law School, together with that of the
Law Department of the European University Institute in Italy, where he was
