Preface
This collection brings together leading academics, practitioners and com-
petition enforcers to discuss the most recent developments in international
competition law and policy. The book features 22 contributions covering a
wide range of subjects. Chapters discuss recent developments in regional
and multinational cooperation, advocacy worldwide, competition and
development, and enforcement trends. In addition, selected areas of law are
explored from a comparative perspective. These include intellectual prop-
erty and competition law, the pharmaceutical industry, merger control,
market dominance and the application of competition laws to anticompeti-
tive agreements.
The discussion in this book portrays the dynamics of international
cooperation and national enforcement. It identifies the forces which led to
past achievements and recognises the challenges that hinder cooperation
and effective enforcement. In doing so, this collection aims to further our
understanding of the current landscape of competition law enforcement and
its future prospects.
A number of people contributed to the success of this project. It's been
my pleasure to work with the authors, whose cooperation and enriching
contributions have enabled the compilation of this book. My thanks are also
due to Sarah Tulip and Jamie Cooke for their dedicated help in reviewing
this collection and to Edward Elgar Publishing for supporting this project
and bringing it to light.
