Abstract/Description:
The 1946 Nuremberg judgement, when referring to war crimes pursuant to Art 6 (b) of the London Charter, recalled that the Hague Regulations prohibit the use of certain means of war, in particular the employment of poisoned weapons. Other international tribunals and inquiry commissions also played an important role in ascertaining war crimes related to the weapons used in recent armed conflicts. This discussion on prohibited weapons accepts that the relevant rules of customary international law are those listed in the 2005 International Committee of the Red Cross Study on customary international law. Therefore, no further discussion on the conclusions reached in that study will be carried out here.
