Richard J. Battaglia is a member of Steptoe's International Regulation &
Compliance team. Rich's practice focuses on US, UK and international
anti-corruption laws, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the
UK Bribery Act, and other anti-corruption laws, anti-money laundering,
economic sanctions, and export controls. Rich was Senior Counsel
Regulatory Compliance for BP for many years with global responsibility
in the anti-corruption, trade sanctions and export controls areas and he
has over 35 years of experience in international business operations. He is
a member of the International Chamber of Commerce Anti-Corruption
Commission and was instrumental in drafting the ICC Guidelines on
anti-corruption due diligence, contractual provisions and other compli-
ance safeguards for agents and other third parties. With his many years
as in-house legal counsel as background, Rich strives to develop workable
and efficient compliance policies and procedures for multinational compa-
nies that incorporate adequate procedures that efficiently and effectively
satisfy requirements of applicable laws.
Dr Andrei V. Belyi is a Senior Researcher at the Centre for EU-Russia
Studies (CEURUS) of the University of Tartu, Estonia and a visiting
honorary lecturer to the Centre for Energy, Petroleum, Mineral Law and
Policy (CEPMLP) of the University of Dundee. Andrei's specialization
covers international energy relations and energy governance. Among
his recent publications: an article on international energy governance in
International Studies perspectives and a contribution to a Handbook
on International Energy Security. Andrei has a doctoral degree at Free
