David Anderson was a Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law
of the Sea (ITLOS) (19962005), after retiring as Second Legal Adviser
to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). Whilst with the legal
advisers to the FCO (19601996), he advised on all aspects of international
law, including the law of treaties and the law of the sea. He was a member
of the British Delegation to many international conferences, including
the Vienna Conference on the Law of Treaties. Between 1973 and 1995,
he played an active part in the Third United Nations Conference on the
Law of the Sea, the Secretary General's Consultations about Part XI, and
the Straddling Fish Stocks Conference; he acted as the UK Agent in the
Fisheries Jurisdiction case (UK v Iceland) at the merits stage before the ICJ
in 1972; he negotiated over a dozen maritime boundary treaties in several
different seas and oceans; and he spent three years with the UK Mission to
the United Nations in New York. He is now listed as an Arbitrator under
Annex VII of UNCLOS.
Youri van Logchem LL.M obtained his LLB (with honourable mention)
at Utrecht University, the Netherlands, and graduated cum laude from
his two-year Honorary Master's in Legal Research at the same university
in 2009. He also obtained the Diploma from the Rhodes Academy for
Oceans Law and Policy in 2012. After completion of his LL.M degree
