Acknowledgements
The editors would like to acknowledge first and foremost the valuable
contributions of Susan Rolston at Seawinds Consulting Services in bring-
ing this volume through to completion. Susan provided detailed copy
editing on the final versions of the chapters and contributed immeasurably
to the quality and consistency of the final product.
Most of the funding to support the project came from the K.G. Jebsen
Centre for the Law of the Sea, Tromsø. Additional financial support was
received from the University of Tromsø, Faculty of Law, and a contribu-
tion from the Schulich Academic Excellence Fund, Schulich School of
Law, Dalhousie University supported the editing work of the project. The
research support of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council
of Canada, particularly through the OceanCanada Partnership, is also
gratefully acknowledged.
Most of the authors of this volume were able to attend an authors'
workshop hosted at the Fridtjhof Nansen Institute (FNI) in Oslo in
wonderful spring weather in April 2015. A few authors (Jay Batongbacal
(Philippines), Aðalheiður Jóhannsdóttir (Iceland) and Hui Liu (China))
were unable to attend in person but were motivated enough, notwithstand-
ing time differences, to join us via Skype and we thank them in particular
for their perseverance. Thanks are also due to Christin Skjervold, senior
advisor with the K.G. Jebsen Centre for all her work in coordinating the
travel and accommodation arrangements for the workshop and to staff at
FNI for hosting our meeting.
