Abstract/Description:

The chapter explores and discusses, for the first time, the transplantation of France’s droit d’auteur into Vietnam from 1864 to 1975. Contrary to the conventional wisdom, during the reviewed period, different ways of legal borrowing were enthusiastically and extensively used, ranging from imposition, voluntary reception as well as prestige and continuance. As a result, a new, well-versed system of copyright laws was put in place for the country. These laws would become the foundation of the copyright law of Vietnam. Keywords: Vietnam, copyright, droit d'auteur, legal transplant, reception, colonial era
