Abstract/Description:
In the twenty-first century humankind is beginning to fear that there will not be enough water to meet all its needs, therefore focusing on a better water management, even on an ethical one. One notes that men and women of every creed from all over the world are more and more eager to understand the issues, some joining forces to express their concerns that freshwater must be considered as a human right, not as an economic good. Their attitude is the expression of a Morality of Conviction. The Singapore’s water success story exemplifies the implementation of sustainable freshwater management thanks to a vigorous Morality of Responsibility, which brings values such as justice for the poor and integrity to the top of the political agenda. This essay shows the potential of linking the Morality of Conviction and the Morality of Responsibility, instead of opposing them.
