Book Title: Uniformity of Transport Law through International Regimes
Editor(s): Bokareva, Olena
Publisher: Edward Elgar Publishing
Section: Chapter 2
Section Title: International regimes on carriage of goods: a historical overview
Number of pages: 17
Abstract/Description:
This chapter provides a historical overview of the law pertaining to carriage of goods unimodally and multimodally. Currently, carriage of goods by sea is subject to the mandatory application of the Hague Rules, Hague–Visby Rules or Hamburg Rules, possibly with the Rotterdam Rules added in the future. Other transport modes are governed by their respective international conventions. Whether these conventions are sufficient and efficient to resolve legal disputes involving claims for loss of or damage to goods or delay in transit that occur in an era of modern technology and transport logistics will be illustrated.
