Editor(s): Marsden, Simon
Publisher: Edward Elgar Publishing
Section: Chapter 4
Section Title: Connecting area and species protection
Number of pages: 28
Abstract/Description:
Chapter 4 is concerned with biodiversity, specifically both area and species protection. It highlights the benefits of connecting area and species protection, via the ‘ecosystem approach’. Together with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species and Convention on Migratory Species treaties are also examined since both (together with the CBD) currently apply in the Third Pole. Additionally, the Antarctic Environmental Protocol and the European Nature Conservation Convention are analysed as specific precedents relevant to the Third Pole.
