Abstract/Description:

This chapter is an attempt to engage with a series of vital questions related to the future of global ethics and the Earth Charter. How do we engage, as citizens of Earth, our common home, in ethical discernment, reflections and praxis in this context of death and destruction? How do we listen to and engage with the subaltern suspicion about, and contestation of the metanarratives of global problematization of and solutions to, the ecological crisis that we confront today? Why do we need to be suspicious about the global covenants and charters of creation care and ecological restoration developed with noble intentions? In examining this question, I privilege the voices of the subaltern communities to critically evaluate the politics of the dominant global initiatives and to search for alternative eco-justice perspectives and politics, with special reference to climate change.
