This chapter provides commentary on art. 15 of the CRC on freedom of association and peaceful assembly. The chapter explains that states have an obligation to allow, protect and facilitate peaceful assemblies and highlights to what extent specific measures are required to realise this right for all children. Limitations of this freedom right are also discussed. Specific attention is paid to the association rights of working children in trade unions, as well as to the added value of art. 15 CRC in strengthening children and young people’s position in a democratic society more generally.
