Section Title: PROTECTION FROM DRUGS
Number of pages: 7
Abstract/Description:
This chapter provides commentary on art. 33 of the CRC on the protection of children from the illicit use of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The chapter addresses the relationship of art. 33 CRC with relevant international treaties such as the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs (1961) and the UN Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (The Vienna Convention, 1988). The chapter looks into obligations with respect to art. 33 CRC, including the debates around the protection of children at higher risk, such as those in street situations, and use of children in the illicit production or trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances as one of the worst forms of child labour.
