This chapter provides commentary on art. 39 of the CRC on the recovery and social reintegration of child victims of neglect, exploitation, or abuse; torture or any other form of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment; or armed conflicts. The chapter outlines the relationship of art. 39 with other provisions of the CRC. It also addresses key issues such as the tension between prosecutorial justice and reintegration and the terminological debates on victim versus survivor.
