Abstract/Description:
This chapter provides for an overview of accurate investment policy and legal framework, as well as data on available investment arbitrations Croatia has been involved in. Croatia has all the necessary prerequisites to attract foreign investment. However, great geographical position, low inflation rate, stable exchange rate, infrastructure, membership in the EU are in the eyes of investors annulled by unnecessary bureaucracy, changes of legal framework, inefficient judicial system, parafiscal charges and high taxes. Available investment arbitration data provide a wide spectrum of investment disputes Croatia was involved in. The most significant ones are listed and elaborated here. Lessons learnt should be used pro futuro, in several directions: developing internal system to attract successful investments, handling possible investments disputes wisely, actively participating in creating the investment treaty landscape.
