Series preface
This series provides a platform for all things private international law. It will include
authoritative scholarly works in the field of private international law, broadly defined. It
represents a showcase for original research that is theoretically rigorous and meets the
highest academic standards setting the benchmark for scholarship in private inter-
national law. The editors of the series decided to include the present volume, since it
identifies and tackles some of the more general questions that need to be answered
before any analysis of more specific questions should be conducted. This volume tries
to answer the question, from a plethora of perspectives, of whether private international
law still has a role to play and serves its original function in today's global
environment. In light of some calls for radical changes to its very foundations, this
timely volume considers the ability of private international law to handle contemporary
and international problems, and not only inspires genuine debate on the future of the
field, but also identifies some areas in which more research is needed.
