Abstract/Description:
The many critics of the current copyright regime find that it does not have the global standing needed in the information society, while its supporters highlight that, historically, copyright evolution is intertwined with technological developments, which shows that copyright can adapt to the fourth industrial revolution, just as it it has to the preceding innovation waves, such as mechanical recording and broadcasting. European and national lawmakers are searching for a balance, among the diverging positions represented by critics of copyright urging for more flexibility and sharing, on the one hand, and by authors and creative industries that support copyright as it has been evolving since the last century, on the other. The debate on copyright in Italy is developing with special intensity when it comes to subjects as controversial as private copy remuneration and collective rights management. It seems inevitable that, in Italy as in other EU countries, the shaping of the new copyright landscape will depend on European lawmakers.
