Abstract/Description:

This chapter examines the recent initiatives of the Japanese Government to promote FinTech and address issues relating to FinTech, including actions taken by the Financial Services Agency of Japan, which is the sole financial supervisor. It examines topics of current interest in Japan, such as the regulation of virtual currency exchanges, crypto assets, third-party payment service providers and the reform of financial regulations toward a function-based and cross-sectoral regulatory system.
