PUBLIC HEALTH REGULATION 2000 - REG 5

What is a vaccine preventable disease?

    (1)     For this regulation, the following diseases are vaccine preventable diseases :

        (a)     diphtheria;

        (b)     Haemophilus influenzae type b (hib) infection;

        (c)     measles;

        (d)     mumps;

        (e)     poliomyelitis;

        (f)     rubella (German measles);

        (g)     tetanus;

        (h)     pertussis (whooping cough);

              (i)     hepatitis B;

        (j)     a disease declared under subsection (2).

    (2)     The chief health officer may—

        (a)     declare another disease to be a vaccine preventable disease; or

        (b)     declare that a disease (including a disease mentioned in subsection (1) (a) to (i)) is not a vaccine preventable disease.

    (3)     A declaration under subsection (2) is a disallowable instrument.

Note     A disallowable instrument must be notified, and presented to the Legislative Assembly, under the href="http://www.legislation.act.gov.au/a/2001-14" title="A2001-14">Legislation Act
