OVERVIEW

This regulation is made under sections 24 and 33 of the Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Act 1999.

It provides for the inclusion of two additional traffic offence detection devices, specifically a laser speed measuring device and a radar speed measuring device, in section 102 of the Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Regulation 2000. The Australian Federal Police, which is responsible for enforcing traffic laws in the ACT, has indicated that it is purchasing these devices to replace and complement the existing range of devices used to detect speeding offences in the ACT. These amendments will authorise their use in the ACT.
