The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1 Short title
6
This Act may be cited as the Australian Broadcasting Corporation
7
Amendment (Local Content) Act 2014.

2 Commencement

This Act commences on the day this Act receives the Royal
10
Assent.

repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule

concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect

according to its terms.

1 After subsection 6(3)
4
Insert:
5
(3A) In performing its functions under subsection (1) and fulfilling its
6
obligations under subsection (2), the Corporation must:
7
(a) have a distinct and discernible presence in each State and
8
Territory, across all platforms, and including but not limited
9
to:
10
(i) news programs, including at least one weekly current
11
affairs program of at least 30 minutes duration; and
12
(ii) investigative reporting; and
13
(iii) regional reporting;
14
which are produced in, of, for and by that State or Territory;
15
and
16
(b) fund internal television production units (including the
17
existing facilities in South Australia) in at least 4 States or
18
Territories other than New South Wales and Victoria, and:
19
(i) ensure that the units are funded to produce content
20
beyond news and current affairs programs; and
21
(ii) allocate at least 0.5 per cent of its annual budget to each
22
unit for its operation.
