The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1 Short title

This Act may be cited as the Criminal Code Amendment (Harming

Australians) Act 2013.

2 Commencement

This Act commences on the day after this Act receives the Royal
8
Assent.

3 Object

The object of this Act is justice for Australian citizens and

residents who were the victims of certain violent crimes committed
3
before 1 October 2002 outside Australia.

Note:
1 October 2002 was the day Division 115 of the Criminal Code
5
(Harming Australians) commenced.

4 Schedule(s)

Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or
8
repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule
9
concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect
10
according to its terms.

After "another person", insert ", whether before, on or after the

commencement of this section".

2 Application of amendments

To avoid doubt, the amendments made by this Schedule apply to
8
conduct that occurs at any time, whether before, on or after the
9
commencement of Schedule 1 to the Criminal Code Amendment
10
(Offences Against Australians) Act 2002.
