The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1  Short title

  This Act is the Export Control Amendment (Equine Live Export for 

6 

Slaughter Prohibition) Act 2018.

2  Commencement 

8 

 

(1)  Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table 

9 

commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with 

10 

column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect 

11 

according to its terms.

7AB  Prohibition of the export of live equines for slaughter 

7 

 

(1)  In this section: 

8 

live  equines  for  slaughter  means  horses,  donkeys,  mules  and 

9 

hinnies that are intended to be exported and slaughtered overseas. 

10 

start time means the start of the day immediately after the day this 

11 

section commences. 

12 

 

(2)  At and after the start time, the regulations are taken to have 

13 

declared that live equines for slaughter are prescribed goods. 

14 

 

(3)  At and after the start time, the regulations are taken to have 

15 

prohibited absolutely the export of live equines for slaughter.
