  This Act is the 

Migration Amendment (New Maritime Crew Visas)

(1)  Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table

commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with

column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect 

10 

according to its terms.

(1A)  The regulations must provide for separate classes of maritime crew

visas that relate to: 

9 

 

(a)  members of the crew of ships entering Australia on a 

10 

continuing international voyage to a place outside of 

11 

Australia, to be known as International Seafarers Transit 

12 

Visas; and 

13 

 

(b)  members of the crew of ships authorised under a temporary 

14 

license to undertake coastal voyages issued under the 

Coastal 

15 

Trading (Revitalising Australian Shipping) Act 2012

, to be 

16 

known as International Seafarers Work Visas.

(1B)  The regulations must provide that an applicant for an International 

18 

Seafarers Work Visa must satisfy criteria consistent with any 

19 

criteria in the 

Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security 

20 

Regulations 2003

 concerning security assessments and criminal 

21 

history checks of an MSIC applicant.
