The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1 Short title

This Act may be cited as the Private Health Insurance Amendment
5
(GP Services) Act 2014.

2 Commencement

This Act commences on the day after this Act receives the Royal
8
Assent.

(1) A private health insurer must not enter into an agreement or

arrangement that provides for:

(a) GP services to be rendered to persons insured under

private

health insurance policies issued by the private health insurer;
12
or
13
(b) persons insured under private health insurance policies issued
14
by the private health insurer to have preferential access to GP
15
services;

Example: Access to a GP out of hours, when uninsured patients do not have
17
access to the GP out of hours.

(2) A GP service is a service rendered in Australia by a general

practitioner (within the meaning of the Health Insurance Act

1973):

(a) that is

general treatment (disregarding

(b) for which

medicare benefit is payable.
