The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1 Short title
5
This Act is the Renewable Energy Legislation Amendment
6
(Supporting Renewable Communities) Act 2017.

2 Commencement
8
(1) Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table
9
commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with
10
column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect
11
according to its terms.

community energy project means a renewable energy project

initiated, developed and delivered by communities or individuals
7
for the purpose of delivering benefits to the community and
8
stakeholders (with or without partnerships with private developers
9
or independent power producers).

or (iv) the planning, development or implementation of

community energy projects; or

(v) the development by the community energy sector of

innovative business and financing models;

(a) for the development or commercialisation of, or in relation to

the use of, renewable energy technologies; and
6
(b) initiated, developed and delivered by communities or
7
individuals for the purpose of delivering benefits to the
8
community and stakeholders (with or without partnerships
9
with private developers or independent power producers).

(ba) investing in community joint partnerships, or other

community energy models, to support sector development
14
(including, but not limited to, accelerating the commercial
15
viability or self-sustainability of community energy projects);
