The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1 Short title

This Act is the Social Services Legislation Amendment (14-month
5
Regional Independence Criteria) Act 2018.

2 Commencement

(1) Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table
8
commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with
9
column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect
10
according to its terms.

Repeal the item, substitute:

7 Application provisions

(1)
The amendments made by this Schedule apply in relation to:
8
(a) subject to subitem (2), working out qualification for, or the
9
rate of, youth allowance in relation to days occurring on or
10
after 1 January 2018; and
11
(b) working out whether a person is qualified for a relocation
12
scholarship payment at a time on or after 1 January 2018.

(2)
The amendments made by this Schedule, so far as they relate to youth
14
allowance, do not apply in relation to a person who, in respect of a day
15
before the day the Social Services Legislation Amendment (14-month
16
Regional Independence Criteria) Act 2018 receives the Royal Assent:
17
(a) receives youth allowance because of a claim made before
18
1 January 2018; and
19
(b) receives the youth allowance at a rate worked out on the basis
20
that the person is independent; and
21
(c) is independent because of paragraph 1067A(10)(c) of the
22
Social Security Act 1991 as in force immediately before
23
1 January 2018.
