A Bill for an Act to amend the law relating to taxation, and for related purposes
The Parliament of Australia enacts:
1 Short title
This Act may be cited as the Tax Laws Amendment (Luxury Car Tax) Act 2008.
2 Commencement
This Act commences on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.
3 Schedule(s)
Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.
Schedule 1--Luxury car tax
A New Tax System (Luxury Car Tax) Act 1999
1 Subsection 5-15(1) (formula)
Repeal the formula, substitute:
where:
rate is the rate applicable under:
(a) the A New Tax System (Luxury Car Tax Imposition--General) Act 1999; or
(b) the A New Tax System (Luxury Car Tax Imposition--Customs) Act 1999; or
(c) the A New Tax System (Luxury Car Tax Imposition--Excise) Act 1999.
2 Subsection 7-15(1) (formula)
Repeal the formula, substitute:
3 At the end of subsection 7-15(1)
Add:
rate is the rate applicable under:
(a) the A New Tax System (Luxury Car Tax Imposition--General) Act 1999; or
(b) the A New Tax System (Luxury Car Tax Imposition--Customs) Act 1999; or
(c) the A New Tax System (Luxury Car Tax Imposition--Excise) Act 1999.
