A Bill for an Act to amend the law relating to

veterans' entitlements, and for related purposes

The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1 Short title
4
This Act may be cited as the Veterans' Entitlements Amendment
5
(Claims for Travel Expenses) Act 2010.

2 Commencement
7
This Act commences on the day this Act receives the Royal
8
Assent.

Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or
2
repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule
3
concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect
4
according to its terms.

Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986

1 Paragraph 132(11)(e)
4
Repeal the paragraph, substitute:
5
(e) must be made within:
6
(i) 12 months after the completion of that travel; or
7
(ii) if the Commission thinks that there are exceptional
8
circumstances that justify extending that period--such
9
further period as the Commission allows.

2 Paragraph 170B(5)(b)

Repeal the paragraph, substitute:
12
(b) be made within:
13
(i) 12 months after the completion of the travel; or
14
(ii) if the Commission thinks that there are exceptional
15
circumstances that justify extending that period--such
16
further period as the Commission allows; and

3 Paragraph 196ZO(5)(b)

Repeal the paragraph, substitute:

(b)
made
within:
20
(i) 12 months after the completion of the travel; or
21
(ii) if the Commission thinks that there are exceptional
22
circumstances that justify extending that period--such
23
further period as the Commission allows; and

4 Application

The amendments made by this Schedule apply in relation to travel
26
completed on or after the commencement of this item (regardless of
27
whether the travel commenced before, on or after that commencement).
