MIGRATION LEGISLATION AMENDMENT (RESTORATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS) BILL 2006

   Explanatory Memorandum - Migration Legislation Amendment
             (Restoration of Human Rights) Bill 2006

This bill seeks to remove the unfair provisions which were imposed by the Migration
Legislation Amendment Act (No. 2) 1998 (the Act) which prevented the Human
Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission (HREOC) from giving legal advice or
assistance to detainees unless a specified request is made.
