Commonwealth Electoral Legislation Amendment Act 1983 No. 144 of 1983 - SECT 75

75. Section 98 of the Principal Act is amended-

         (a)  by inserting in sub-section (1) ''Divisional'' before
''Returning'';

   (b)  by omitting paragraph (1) (a);

   (c)  by inserting after sub-section (1) the following sub-section:

''(1A) If the proceedings on the day of nomination stand adjourned to polling
day, the Electoral Commission, in pursuance of its powers under section 11,
shall immediately appoint a presiding officer to preside at each polling place
and all necessary assistant presiding officers and poll clerks.'';

   (d)  by omitting from sub-section (2) '', poll clerk, or doorkeeper''
        (wherever occurring) and substituting ''or poll clerk'';

   (e)  by omitting from sub-section (2) ''Divisional Returning Officer'' and
        substituting ''Electoral Commission''; and

   (f)  by omitting from sub-section (3) ''twenty-one years'' and substituting
        ''18 years''.
