FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 1982 No. 3 of 1982 - SECT 28
Information Access Offices
28. (1) The Minister administering this Act shall cause to be published, as
soon as practicable after the date of commencement of this Part, but not later
than 12 months after that date, a statement setting out the addresses of such
offices of the Government of the Commonwealth, throughout Australia, as are to
be Information Access Offices for the purposes of this section.
(2) A person who is entitled to obtain access to a document of an agency or to
an official document of a Minister shall have that access provided, if the
person so requests, at the Information Access Office having appropriate
facilities to provide access in the form requested that is closest to his
normal place of residence.
(3) Nothing in this section shall be taken to prevent an agency to which, or a
Minister to whom, a request has been made for access to a document in a
particular form from giving access to that document, in accordance with
sub-section 20 (3), in a form other than the form requested.
(4) A person who is provided with access to a document at an Information
Access Office shall not, by reason of the fact that the provision of access at
that Office has necessitated the incurring of costs by an agency or a Minister
that would not have been incurred had access been provided at another place,
be required to pay any charge additional to the charge that he would have been
required to pay had he been provided with access at that other place.
