Receiving bribes
(1) A person commits an offence if:
(a) after this section commences, the person:
(i) asks for, receives or obtains; or
(ii) offers or agrees to ask for, or receive or obtain;
any property or benefit of any kind for the person or any other person; and
(b) the person does so on an understanding that the person's decision as to whether to provide a marriage law survey response to the Statistician, or the content of such a response, will be influenced or affected.
Giving bribes
(2) A person commits an offence if:
(a) after this section commences, the person:
(i) gives or confers; or
(ii) promises or offers to give or confer;
any property or benefit of any kind to another person; and
(b) the person does so intending to influence or affect the other person's decision as to whether to provide a marriage law survey response to the Statistician, or the content of such a response.
Public policy or public action
(3) This section does not apply in relation to property or a benefit that is a declaration of public policy or a promise of public action.
