MERIT PROTECTION (AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES) ACT 1984 No. 65, 1984 - SECT 77

77. (1) The staff required for the purposes of this Act shall be persons
appointed or employed under the Public Service Act 1922.

(2) The Director has all the powers of, or exercisable by, a Secretary under
the Public Service Act 1922 so far as those powers relate to the branch of the
Public Service comprising the staff referred to in sub-section (1) as if that
branch were a separate Department of the Public Service.

(3) For the purposes of section 26 of the Public Service Act 1922 , the
Director shall be deemed to be a Secretary.
