The powers of duly authorised officers extend only to inspecting the operational areas of a ship.
The following may be appointed as duly authorised officers:

(a) customs officers;
(b) members of the Australian Defence Force;
(c) immigration officers;
(d) AMSA surveyors;
(e) quarantine officers.
