NATIONAL PARKS AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION ACT 1975 No. 12, 1975 - SECT 16

Functions.
16. (1) The functions of the Director are-

   (a)  to administer, manage and control parks and reserves;

   (b)  to protect, conserve, manage and control wildlife;

   (c)  to conduct surveys, and collect statistics, of and in relation to
        animals and plants;

   (d)  to co-operate with any country in matters relating to the protection
        and conservation of animals and plants in that country and the
        establishment and management of national parks and nature reserves in
        that country;

   (e)  to provide, and assist in the provision of, training in the knowledge
        and skills relevant to the protection, conservation and management of
        wildlife and the establishment and management of national parks and
        nature reserves;

   (f)  to carry out by himself or in co-operation with other institutions and
        persons, and to arrange for any other institution or person to carry
        out, research and investigations relevant to the establishment and
        management of national parks and nature reserves and the protection,
        conservation and management of wildlife;

   (g)  to make recommendations to the Minister in relation to-

        (i)    the establishment and naming of parks and reserves; and

        (ii)   the protection and conservation of wildlife throughout
               Australia;

   (h)  to administer the Fund; and

        (i)    to do anything incidental or conducive to the performance of
               any of the foregoing functions.

(2) Except as otherwise provided by this Act, the Director shall perform his
functions and exercise his powers in accordance with any directions given by
the Minister.

(3) The Director shall include in each report prepared under section 52
particulars of any directions given by the Minister under sub-section (2)
during the period to which the report relates.
