SPACE ACTIVITIES ACT 1998 No. 123, 1998 - SECT 52
Powers of Launch Safety Officer
(1) The Launch Safety Officer for a licensed launch facility may do all things
that are reasonably necessary or convenient to be done for the performance of
his or her functions.
(2) In particular, the Launch Safety Officer for a licensed launch facility
may:
(a) with the consent of the holder of the relevant space licence, or of
any person authorised by the holder to give that consent:
(b) ask the
holder, or any employee, agent or contractor of the holder, to give
him or her any information or assistance, for which he or she
reasonably asks, to assist in the proper performance of his or her
functions; and
(c) give any directions about the launch of a space object carried out, or
proposed to be carried out, at the facility that he or she considers
necessary to avoid any danger to public health or to persons or
property, including directions to stop the launch or destroy the space
object (whether before or after it is launched).
(3) The Launch Safety Officer's powers under this section do not entitle him
or her to enter a licensed launch facility without the consent of the holder
of the relevant space licence or of a person authorised by the holder to give
that consent.
(4) The Launch Safety Officer for a licensed launch facility is not entitled
to exercise any powers under this section at or on the facility if:
(5) The Launch Safety Officer's functions and powers do not entitle him or her
to be involved in the normal business operations of the holder of a space
licence or launch permit.
