States Grants (Schools Assistance) Act 1983 No. 119 of 1983 - SECT 52
Grants for expenditure in connection with the education of students receiving primary education or secondary education in prescribed country areas
52. (1) Subject to section 53, the Minister may authorize the payment to a
State under this section, by way of financial assistance to the State in
respect of expenditure in connection with the education of students receiving
primary education or secondary education in prescribed country areas in the
State, of such amounts as the Minister determines.
(2) Financial assistance is granted to a State under this section on the
condition that the State will ensure that an amount equal to the sum of the
amounts of financial assistance paid to the State under this section is
applied by the State for the purpose of meeting-
(a) recurrent expenditure, in respect of the year 1984, in connection with
the education of students receiving primary education or
secondary education in prescribed country areas in the State; or
(b) expenditure, in respect of commitments already undertaken or to be
undertaken not later than 31 December 1984, in relation to minor
building projects, or minor equipment projects, in connection with the
education of students receiving primary education or
secondary education in prescribed country areas in the State, being
projects-
(i) the total expenditure in relation to each of which is, or will
be, less than $30,000; or
(ii) that are approved by the Minister for the purposes of this
section.
(3) Financial assistance to a State in respect of expenditure in connection
with the education of students receiving primary education or
secondary education in prescribed country areas of the State is granted to the
State under this section on the condition that the State will ensure that the
benefits of, and the opportunities created by, the application of an amount
equal to so much of the amount of that financial assistance as is applied for
the purpose of meeting expenditure in connection with that education in
co-educational schools, are, as far as practicable, equally available to male
students and female students at these schools.
