STATES GRANTS (PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) ACT 1996 No. 70, 1996 - SECT 67

(1) The object of this Part is to make grants to meet special learning needs
of certain children and students.

(2) This object is given effect by:

   (a)  improving the education of children with disabilities and students
        with disabilities by granting financial assistance to the States for
        the provision of therapeutic and other essential services and the
        provision of capital facilities; and

   (b)  helping government and non-government schools, at both primary and
        secondary levels, to meet any additional operating expenses in respect
        of students with disabilities; and

   (c)  helping with the provision of intensive teaching of the English
        language to certain students who recently arrived in Australia; and

   (d)  helping schools and school communities to improve the educational
        outcomes and opportunities of students who are educationally
        disadvantaged because their geographical isolation restricts their
        access to social, cultural and educational activities.
