STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) AMENDMENT ACT 1988 No. 62, 1988 - SECT 9

9. After section 17 of the Principal Act the following section is inserted in
Division 2: Recurrent grants in respect of drug and alcohol education in
teaching hospitals

"17A. (1) In relation to each university specified in Schedule 4A, there is
payable to the relevant State, for the purpose of financial assistance in
relation to the review of, and research in connection with, the undergraduate
medical curriculum of the university in so far as it is concerned with matters
relating to the abuse of alcohol and drugs, in respect of the year 1988, the
amount specified in that Schedule in relation to the university.

"(2) Financial assistance is granted to a State under subsection (1) in
relation to a university on the conditions that:

   (a)  the State will pay each amount of that financial assistance received
        by it to the university without undue delay;

   (b)  the State will ensure that the sum of the amounts expended by the
        university for the purpose of the review and research referred to in
        subsection (1) in the university in respect of the year 1988, is not
        less than the sum of the amounts of financial assistance paid to the
        State under subsection (1) in relation to the university in respect of
        that year; and

   (c)  the State will ensure that the university furnishes to the Minister,
        not later than 30 September 1989, a statement by a qualified auditor,
        in accordance with the approved form, as to the amounts expended as
        described in paragraph (b).".
