AMENDMENT OF THE SOCIAL SECURITY ACT 1991 RELATING TO
THE DEFINITION OF SOCIAL SECURITY RECIPIENT STATUS 1. Subsection 23(1)
(definition of "social security recipient status"): Omit the definition,
substitute: "'social security recipient status', for the purposes of the
definition of 'long-term social security recipient', means: (a) in the case of
a person who is receiving a job search allowance or newstart allowance-status
as a recipient of a social security pension, a social security benefit, a
youth training allowance, an ABSTUDY allowance, an AUSTUDY allowance or a
service pension; or (b) in any other case-status as a recipient of a social
security pension, a social security benefit, a youth training allowance or a
service pension;". 2. Application The amendment made by this Schedule does not
apply to a recipient of a job search allowance or a newstart allowance who
notifies the Department of the death of his or her partner before the day on
which this Schedule commences.
