TELECOMMUNICATIONS ACT 1991 No. 98 of 1991 - SECT 36

36. The functions of AUSTEL include responsibility for:

   (a)  economic and technical regulation of the Australian
telecommunications industry, including in particular the
promotion of air and efficient market conduct within the
industry, and the implementation of the Commonwealth
Government's industry policies relating to telecommunications;
and

   (b)  giving advice and assistance to the Australian telecommunications
industry; and

   (c)  giving reports and advice to the Minister in relation to the
industry.
