1990 No. 443 AUSTUDY REGULATIONS - REG 38

Levels of tertiary courses
38. (1) The AUSTUDY scheme divides tertiary courses into 3 groups, Groups A, B
and C. 1

(2) The courses in each group are of the same level, but:

   (a)  the courses in Group A are higher than those in Groups B and C; and

   (b)  the courses in Group B are higher than those in Group C.

(3) Group A courses are:

   (a)  a postgraduate bachelor degree course, with or without honours;

   (b)  a graduate or postgraduate diploma course;

   (c)  a course of practical legal training at a higher education
        institution;

   (d)  a course of advanced education regarded by an accrediting authority as
        being at PG1 level.

(4) Group B courses are:

   (a)  a bachelor degree course (other than a postgraduate course), with or
        without honours;

   (b)  a diploma course (other than a graduate or postgraduate diploma
        course), including an associate diploma course;

   (c)  a Master's qualifying course;

   (d)  the Barristers or Solicitors Admission Board's course;

   (e)  an associateship or a fellowship course at a higher education
        institution;

   (f)  a course of advanced education regarded by an accrediting authority as
        being at UG1, UG2 or UG3 level;

   (g)  a 2-year teaching certificate course at a State teacher training
        college.

(5) Group C courses are:

   (a)  a TAFE course at a higher education institution;

   (b)  a course at a TAFE institution unless it is in Group A or B. Note to
        regulation 38 1 Group A courses are postgraduate courses Group B
        courses are undergraduate courses Group C courses are TAFE courses.
