1988 NO. 158 CIVIL AVIATION REGULATIONS - REG 98

Functions of Air Traffic Control
98. (1) The functions of Air Traffic Control shall be:

   (a)  the prevention of collisions between aircraft, and, on the manoeuvring
        area, between aircraft and obstructions;

   (b)  expediting and maintaining an orderly flow of air traffic;

   (c)  the provision of such advice and information as may be useful for the
        safe and efficient conduct of flights;

   (d)  the control of the initiation, continuation, diversion or termination
        of flight in order to ensure the safety of aircraft operations; and

   (e)  notifying appropriate organisations regarding aircraft known to be or
        believed to be in need of search and rescue aid, co-ordinating search
        and rescue aid and otherwise assisting those organisations as
        required.

(2) The Authority may, by means of Civil Aviation Orders, AIP or NOTAMS, as
the case requires, give such instructions and directions on matters within the
functions of Air Traffic Control as the Authority considers necessary.
