Commonwealth Numbered Regulations Commonwealth Numbered Regulations(1) If, apart from this section, a period of punishment of a detainee in a detention centre by remission or otherwise would expire on a Sunday or public holiday (the expiry day ), the officer in charge of the detention centre may remit so much of the unexpired period of detention as would enable the detainee to be released on the last day preceding the expiry day that is not a Sunday or public holiday.
(2) A detainee may be released at any time during the period of 24 hours immediately preceding the expiration of the detainee's period of detention.
